Beginner questions, answered

Do I need an expensive juicer to start? +
No. You can start with a regular blender by blending produce with a little water and straining it through a fine sieve or nut-milk bag. A budget centrifugal juicer works too. Slow (masticating) juicers cost more but get higher yield from leafy greens.
Is fresh juice the same as a smoothie? +
No. Juicing separates the liquid from the pulp, so you get the juice without most of the fiber. A smoothie blends the whole fruit or vegetable, fiber included. Juice is lighter and faster to drink; a smoothie is more filling.
How much juice should a beginner drink a day? +
A common starting point is one 8 to 16 ounce glass per day, usually in the morning. Vegetable-forward juices keep the sugar lower than all-fruit juices. Adjust based on how you feel and any guidance from your doctor.
Will juicing help me lose weight? +
Juice can fit into a weight-management plan when it replaces higher-calorie drinks or snacks, but it is not a guaranteed fix on its own. Lower-sugar, vegetable-based juices are the better fit for that goal. Results depend on your overall diet and activity.
Can I juice if I have a health condition? +
Talk to your doctor first. Juicing changes the sugar, potassium, and nutrient load of what you drink, which can matter if you have diabetes, kidney issues, or take certain medications. We share lifestyle and recipe information, not medical advice.
